Cadastrei-me no "Monday Morning Wave" da revista inglêsa Surfer´s Path, já faz um tempinho. Isto garante que todas as segundas-feiras, chega ao meu e-mail uma mensagem contendo algumas pérolas, entre elas uma foto e um pequeno texto. Algumas destas mensagens são memoráveis, com a foto e o texto conseguindo mexer comigo.

Foi o caso hoje: A foto é da Libéria e, sua legenda, fantástica: "A Libéria tem um novo governo e pela primeira vez em 25 anos, não há guerra por lá. Comida para o povo! E renovem as propriedades a beira-mar como esta!"

O texto desta segunda-feira é uma estorinha contada pelo surfista, jornalista e historiador do surfe, Matt Warshaw (mantenho na sua forma original, em inglês):
"I was interviewing Rabbit in an SFO terminal in 1993 when he spread his arms as he could and said something like "This is how long mankind's been around." Then squinted and pointed his index finger at the right edge of his imaginary timeline, "And I'm born here, and I get to grow up at Kirra, and surf around the world, and just live this life...." He was grinning now, high-voiced, almost wild-eyed. "Can you believe how lucky that is? Is that the luckiest thing you've ever heard of?" Rabbit was about 40 then. He's still that stoked. I think about that sometimes when I'm feeling a little cynical or burned-out."

A expressão "he´s still that stoked" mexeu comigo. Na verdade me identifico com este sentimento. Acredito, inclusive, que vou ter este sentimento para com o surfe, para sempre, pois sinto-me a cada ano, mais fissurado...
